Zanesville Mayor Proposes City Hall Security Upgrades – WHIZ

ZANESVILLE, OH – Some changes are coming to City Hall in the wake of Monday’s shooting.

Mayor of Zanesville, Don Mason, said they are looking into short term as well as long term improvements in security at City Hall.

“We’re looking at what we can do in regards to hours of visitation in City Hall, points of entry into City Hall,” Mayor Mason said, “Also how people can pay their bills or get their permits filed or pay their income tax. We’re still in the process of analysis, but what’s clear to us is we’ll probably be going in the direction that many other governmental entities have gone to.”

Mayor Mason said this means there will be one point of entry with the addition of security guards, metal detectors, as well as other screening devices.

He also said he has tried to keep his open door policy, by returning every phone call and email he receives. He said these things won’t change, but some things will.

“People will have to literally come through the front door and get past security in order to see me or to see anybody.” Mayor Mason said. “I’ve tried to shy away from that because I want the government to be completely accessible to the public.”

Mayor Mason did not provide a timeline for when these upgrades to City Hall will begin.
