DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A woman has been identified and is now charged following an incident involving a flag during a Durham City Council meeting, the Durham Police Department said Monday.
Police recently asked the public to help them identify the woman after they said an assault and larceny took place during the meeting on Monday, Feb. 5.
Officers said a woman told them she was holding a flag when the suspect took her flag and dragged her across the floor. Police said the victim sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Durham police said they have identified the suspect as 30-year-old Anna Mullen, and she has been charged with common law robbery.
During the same city council meeting, a large crowd of pro-Palestinian protesters halted the meeting for about 15 minutes, with several groups coming together to push the city to pass a permanent ceasefire resolution.
Durham City Council members are holding a ceasefire resolution discussion Monday night where they said they will allow people on both sides of the issue to talk. The mayor said he had set boundaries to keep control over the meeting.
Investigators have not confirmed whether the incident was related to the protest.
