Winter weather halts Waste Management services across central Arkansas

Waste Management on Monday announced the temporary suspension of their solid waste, residential recycling, and landfill services while winter weather continues to impact travel conditions in central Arkansas.

The waste and environmental services company said services for all customers would be suspended Tuesday, including access to their Two-Pine and Jefferson County landfills.

The safety of our employees remains paramount to WM,” said Jamie Vernon, public sector manager for WM. “We will continue to provide the public updates on our service schedule, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.”

The planned delay will impact residential curbside recycling customers in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Sherwood, unincorporated areas of Pulaski County, Pine Bluff, and Jefferson County, WM said in a news release.

They said regular recycling and solid waste pickup would resume once conditions made it safe to do so. If a customer is missed due to the weather delays, WM said the the solid waste and recycling would be collected during the next regularly scheduled pickup date.

WM recommends that customers with extra recycling that doesn’t fit in the cart should place the items in a cardboard box by the cart, but reminded that plastic bags should never be used for recyclables.

Although much of the snow exited the state Monday, the freezing temperatures remain in place at least through Wednesday.
