Williamsport Wawa approved by City Council | News, Sports, Jobs | #citycouncil

WAWA is approved.

Williamsport City Council approved land development for a WAWA, 154 Maynard St. as presented by Gary Knarr, zoning and codes officer.

Depending on the weather and schedule, builders anticipate a pad to be put down and the model 6,000-square-foot store to be built and ready to open in the next 10 months.

The store will have 70 parking spaces and 12 charging stations for electric vehicles, officials said.

“Look forward to the coffee,” joked Council President Adam Yoder.

The store is well known for its made-to-order hoagies and soups. Hoagies is another name for subs and used predominantly along the East Coast, especially in Philadelphia, where WAWA has its Hoagie Day give-away. The store will also have gasoline service.

The store will have accessibility paths and pedestrian crossing at First Street. There will be several ways to access the streets, as it will have signs discouraging left turns out onto Maynard Street. Instead, the developer representatives noted there will be a safer way to access Maynard Street via an access road behind Fairfield Inn.

The store is expected to be open sometime in 2024.

It is only a quarter mile from its primary competitor, Sheetz, which is based in Altoona.

The store is expected to serve the Pennsylvania College of Technology, community neighborhoods, whole of the City of Williamsport and Greater Williamsport region.

It was brought here by Famvest, a State College development firm that recently took ownership of the former Lycoming Mall property. Famvest also has interests it is developing in Clinton and Loyalsock townships.
