White House celebration includes Bauxite teacher


Dustin Parsons, a middle and high school teacher in the Bauxite School District, will be one of 25 educators from across the nation on Wednesday to participate in a White House Teacher Appreciation event hosted by first lady Jill Biden.

The 5 p.m. Central Time event will be livestreamed.

Parsons is a graduate of the district in which he teaches. He has a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Arkansas Tech University. In addition to teaching, he is a farmer and is working to preserve his family’s agricultural interests.

He is a member of the Arkansas Education Association teacher union and incoming member of the National Education Association’s board of directors.

He was a delegate at both the 2016 and 2020 National Democratic Conventions. In 2016 he was a speaker at the convention, according to the Arkansas Education Association announcement of Parson’s involvement in the Wednesday White House event.
