Voters get in on first day of early voting in Arkansas, Texas for presidential primaries March 5

TEXARKANA (KSLA) — Election season is here as early voting in Arkansas and Texas began Tuesday morning (Feb. 20) for the presidential preference primary elections March 5.

“I come early to beat the crowd and do my duty as a citizen,” said one person voting early Tuesday.

“I’ve always voted early. Did my background check on all of my candidates that are running for office,” said another early voter.

ARKANSAS

In Miller County, Ark., voters can cast your ballot early at the American Legion building in downtown Texarkana. Poll hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each weekday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Early voting ends at 5 p.m. March 4.

TEXAS

There are three early voting locations in Bowie County:

  • County Courthouse in New Boston
  • Southwest Center in Texarkana
  • Walnut Church of Christ in Texarkana

Polls in Bowie County are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Feb. 23, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. During the week of Feb. 26, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each weekday.

Election leaders say they’re not expecting a huge turnout for early voting nor on Election Day.

“The primary is usually low as compared to the general election, and I think again, it is a presidential primary and it’s in March and people are just not aware the election season is upon us,” said Linda Crawford, election coordinator in Miller County.

Election Day in Arkansas is Tuesday, March 5.
