Virginia Beach City Council member joins field of mayoral candidates for 2024 – The Virginian-Pilot | #citycouncil

Councilmember Sabrina Wooten announced her intention to run for mayor of Virginia Beach on Friday, joining a field of three other candidates in the 2024 mayoral race.

The election is Nov. 5, 2024.

Wooten, 48, represents District 7 and is serving her second consecutive term on the Virginia Beach City Council. She was appointed to council in 2018, filling the seat Bobby Dyer vacated when he became mayor. She was elected in 2020 and her term expires at the end of 2024.

Dyer plans to run for reelection. Former Councilmember John Moss, 69, who lost the District 9 election last year, is also running. And current Councilmember Chris Taylor, 39, entered the race last week.

In her announcements posted to social media, Wooten said she has “a vision for a stronger, bolder and more inclusive Virginia Beach.”

Wooten could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.
