KMBC 9 Investigates is learning more about the antisemitic comments made by the Mayor of Odessa, Mo. Mayor Stephen Wright made the comments during a board meeting this week. The City of Odessa removed the video, so KMBC Investigates filed a Sunshine request to see what happened. The video shows Wright discussing the city’s contract with Republic Trash services. He was speaking about what Republic charged for its services when the remark was made. “They are not trying to *** anybody or anybody like that,” Wright said. “But if you’re going to get rid of more trash, Republic has to push the price on down the line.”On Wednesday, Wright issued an apology that was posted on the Facebook page of the city. “Those statements were not in keeping with the beliefs and values of the City of Odessa and should not be construed to represent the views of our City,” Wright wrote. “It was not my intent to degrade or marginalize anyone, or any group of people, nor to further any negative stereotypes based upon their heritage or belief.”Wright has been mayor since 2020. He ran unopposed.
