Utility rates, grocery store recruitment update on council’s Feb. 26 meeting agenda | #citycouncil

Utility rates, capital improvements and grocery store recruitment are among the items on the Philomath City Council’s meeting agenda for Monday. The Feb. 26 meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The city’s annual review of utility rates shows proposed residential water and sewer increases of 15% for the base rate and 2.5% in volume charges. Typical customers would see increases of 25 cents per month for street utility fees and 10 cents per month in storm drain fees. Mike Murzynsky, in an agenda item summary to the council, said the increases will be needed to keep revenues in line with operating and capital expenses while also preparing the next fiscal  year’s budget.

Also on the agenda is a look at recommended annual adjustments to the city’s Capital Improvement Plan, updating municipal code on the residency requirement to run for City Council and mayor to line up with the city charter and a report from Councilor Teresa Nielson on the prospects of enticing a grocery store to Philomath.

Prior to the regular meeting, the council will meet at 5:30 p.m. for an initial look at the 2024-28 Strategic Plan. Councilors will discuss their priorities and suggest changes to existing objectives.

For those not attending in person at City Hall, the regular meeting will be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.
