U.S. Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama to deliver GOP response to State of the Union • Louisiana Illuminator | #republicans | #Alabama | #GOP

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama will deliver the Republican rebuttal following President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address to Congress on March 7.

House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana said Thursday that Britt will share her story as a mother and as the first woman elected to serve Alabama in the Senate.

The announcement comes as the Biden administration has been highly critical of a recent state Supreme Court ruling in Alabama with the result that in vitro fertilization treatments have been placed on hold. The Alabama House of Representatives Thursday approved a bill that would give criminal and civil immunity to IVF providers and patients on a 94-6 vote.

“As the only current Republican mom of school-aged kids serving in the Senate, Katie is fighting to preserve the American Dream for the next generation,” Johnson said in a statement. “She is a champion for strong families, a secure border, national defense and a vibrant economy with stable prices and opportunities for all.”

Britt said in a statement that she is excited about the opportunity to show Americans how the “Republican Party is the party of hardworking parents and families.”

“At this decisive moment in our country’s history, it’s time for the next generation to step up and preserve the American Dream for our children and our grandchildren,” she said.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky also praised the freshman senator.

“Senator Katie Britt is an unapologetic optimist, and as one of our nation’s youngest Senators, she’s wasted no time becoming a leading voice in the fight to secure a stronger American future and leave years of Washington Democrats’ failures behind,” McConnell said in a statement.
