A minor change may be coming to the way absentee votes are counted in Two Rivers.

.City Manager Greg Buckley told Seehafer News that during the City Council’s work session meeting Monday, City Clerk Amanda Baryenbruch (BEAR-EN-BROOK) updated the council on a potential ordinance making Two Rivers a Central Count municipality.

According to Elections.WI.gov, Central count allows “absentee ballots be processed and canvassed at an alternate site.”

As for how it would work in Two Rivers, Buckley explained, “There would be a separate group of poll workers with ballot-counting machines that would handle all of the absent voter ballots rather than trying to fit that work in at the polling places where they are also dealing with voters that are coming in live.”

There are numerous municipalities around the state that use the system, including the City of Manitowoc.

Buckley noted that if approved at a future City Council meeting, the use of Central Count would require a ”small additional investment in equipment.”
