Two new councilmembers sworn in to IOP City Council | News | #citycouncil


The Isle of Palms ushered in a new lineup of its city council on Jan. 2. Two new councilmembers and two familiar faces took the oath of office and then their seats at the dais. The Isle of Palms Police Department kicked off the ceremony with a posting of the colors.

City Clerk Nicole DeNeane administered the oath of office to Elizabeth Campsen, Ashley Carroll, Scott Pierce and Jimmy Ward. The council chambers were full of family, friends and city staff who gathered to watch the four council members begin their terms. Isle of Palms Mayor Phillip Pounds addressed the crowd and council, calling for respect and civility amongst the latest configuration of council in the new year.

“Each new year brings a certain amount of hope and promise and anticipation,” Pounds said. “No matter how you approach a new year, I hope we will all resolve to treat each other with the utmost respect and engage in civil discourse.”


MP, IOP Council winners weigh in

Pounds said the council will take part in a technical training and goal-setting retreat administered by the Municipal Association of South Carolina on Jan. 5.

“In the past two years, we’ve made significant progress on many fronts and I know we will continue that progress,” Pounds said.
