Two candidates qualify to challenge GOP Rep. Gary Palmer in primary


Two candidates have already qualified for the GOP primary in Alabama’s 6th Congressional District. Ken McFeeters and Gerrick Wilkins will both appear on the ballot on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Ken McFeeters is one of two candidates currently running for the GOP nomination in District 6. According to his campaign website, McFeeters is the co-founder of an insurance agency where he has worked for more than four decades. Gerrick Wilkins is also running in the Republican primary. On his website, Wilkins points to his business experience and notes more than two decades of experience in the auto industry. Alabama’s 6th district is currently represented by Representative Gary Palmer. First elected in 2014, Palmer is currently in his fifth term and currently serves as chair of the House Republican Policy Committee. Most recently, Rep. Palmer briefly ran for Speaker of the House. According to the Alabama Secretary of State’s website, Congressional District 6 stretches from parts of Jefferson County, south to Autauga County, east to Elmore County and west to Bibb County. There are still several weeks left for additional candidates to qualify for the Republican primary. The deadline for the GOP primary is Nov. 10, 2023.Palmer has not qualified for this race as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.No Democrats have qualified in Alabama’s 6th Congressional District. The deadline for the Democratic primary is also Nov. 10, 2023.
