Tulsa mayor, city council unanimously vote to remove Ancestral remains from Gilcrease


Tulsa’s Mayor GT Bynum and the Tulsa City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to remove the ancestral remains from the Gilcrease Museum.

In the meeting agenda, the “Mayor’s Items” for vote consideration included:

Consideration and possible approval, adoption, denial, amendment, or revision of a deaccession of Ancestral remains and associated objected representing six individuals and four lots of funerary items from multiple sites in Arkansas culturally or geographically affiliated with the Caddo Nation, Osage Nation, and Quapaw Nation from the Gilcrease Museum in accordance with the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act, also known as NAGPRA, and federal regulations.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the mayor’s decision.
