Trevino to be sworn in as Laredo’s 85th mayor on Dec. 28


The City of Laredo announced Wednesday, Dec. 21 that newly elected mayor Dr. Victor D. Trevino will be sworn in on Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Trevino, who formerly served as the Laredo Health Authority, will be sworn in as Laredo’s 85th mayor at 5:30 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers. The event will be led by Municipal Court Judge Jesus “Chuy” Dominguez.

After finishing second in the general election to earn a spot in the runoff, Trevino won with 54.06? of the vote, or 8,419 votes. Former District III Councilmember Mercurio “Merc” Martinez received 45.94% of the vote, or 7,154 votes.

“Thank you Laredo for having the faith in me to be your next mayor,” Trevino said to the public in a statement after the win. “I will not let you down because we are all Laredoans and equal under God! Hoy gano el pueblo!”

Trevino will serve his term from 2022-26. He replaces Pete Saenz who is finishing his second term this year.
