Total solar eclipse glasses in Central Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — In just a little under two months, a total solar eclipse will be making its way over Arkansas and several other parts of the country on April 8, 2024.

A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between both Earth and the Sun casting its shadow onto Earth.

According to reports, it is a popular misconception that the phenomenon of a total solar eclipse is rare. They explained how that’s not the case, but they cannot always be seen from Earth.

After the highly anticipated solar event in April, the next total solar eclipse that will be visible from the United States will not happen until August 23, 2044.

Due to the positioning of Arkansas within the eclipse’s path of totality, thousands of people are expected to be in the state to experience the eclipse. Some places in Arkansas will experience up to a little over four minutes of totality during the 2024 total solar eclipse.

To view the eclipse safely, NASA recommends that people view it through eclipse glasses or a safe handheld viewer. They stress that people should not use traditional sunglasses because they are not safe for viewing the sun.

Any solar eclipse glasses that are purchased must comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard.
