The race isn’t over yet as Watertown’s mayoral candidates make one last push on the streets

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – On Sunday, City of Watertown mayoral candidates Lisa Ruggiero and Sarah Compo Pierce hit the streets as they made their last rounds around the city to talk with voters.

Ruggiero made a stop on East Main Avenue. It’s there she met with a voter who was excited to see her.

“It’s been great feedback so far, and they’re sharing some of their concerns with me, and you know, I’m informing them on some of the projects we have done and what we got coming up next year,” said Ruggiero.

A few blocks over from Ruggiero was Compo Pierce greeting some supporters of her own.

“It helps to listen to people and give them an opportunity to tell you what’s important to them and what they would like to see done or complaints, suggestions,” said Compo Pierce.

City of Watertown resident Rosalind Lopez says the ideal future mayor should be transparent and fiscally responsible and continue to work towards better infrastructure in the city.

“Sometimes I wonder, we are getting all of this money, where is it going? These roads! I fix my car and two minutes later I hit a pothole, then I have another repair bill and stuff, so that’s my main thing,” said Lopez, a resident of Superior Street.

Lopez also says she hopes the new mayor brings civility back to council.

“It’s more fighting than anything getting done, and I wish that would kind of die down.” said Lopez.

How do Ruggiero and Compo Pierce feel with the election just days away?

“It’s the unknowns, and you know, you get to the point to where it’s the day of election, and you’re like ‘Okay, have I done everything that I can do, is there anything more that I can do?’” said Ruggiero.

“When I make my mind up to do something, I do it and give 110%, so I would say I’m just out there doing the work, and I’ll let the chips fall where they’ll may, but again I know I’ve given it my all,” said Compo Pierce.

City voters will get to decide who the next mayor will be on Election Day, November 7th.
