Storm leaves thousands without power


CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) – Less than 24 hours after a powerful storm pushed across parts of Region 8, thousands of people remained without power.

Craighead Electric Cooperative reported outages in Independence, Sharp, Craighead, Greene, Poinsett, Crittenden, and Lawrence Counties. More than 2,200 customers in Poinsett County remained without power Monday morning.

CEC reported late Sunday night the winds broke more than 10 poles and damaged a transmission line.

“Crews are still working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” the company stated in an 11 p.m. social media post on June 26. “Crews from around the state will be here to help in the morning.”

As of Monday, Entergy Arkansas reported the following outages:

  • Craighead: 439
  • Independence: 797
  • Izard: 124
  • Jackson: 89
  • Lawrence: 1
  • Mississippi: 1,057
  • Poinsett: 2,282
  • Sharp: 451
  • Stone: 703
  • White: 83
