Staybridge Suites Teams Up with Mayor Lori Bagwell to Honor Centenarians | Carson City Nevada News

The Board of Supervisors, along with community partners, issued a proclamation to recognize September 22, 2023, as National Centenarians Day to honor residents that have celebrated 100 birthdays or more.

Laura McLaren, Sales Manager at Staybridge Suites Carson City, brought the idea to Mayor Lori Bagwell. Laura then reached out to the senior living communities to help identify local centenarians.

Seven centenarians were identified through this process and at the board meeting, a late addition, Agnus Funke, was added, bringing the total to eight. Each Centenarian was issued a certificate, given a bouquet of flowers, a Carson City commemorative coin, and took pictures with the mayor afterwards.

Agnes said her secret to a long life are, “A positive attitude, and a glass of wine every day!”

Names of the Carson City Centenarians recognized are:
• Audrey Johnson, 100 years of age
• Cleo Leonard, 100 years of age
• Harley Utz, 100 years of age
• Walter Drew, 101 years of age
• Agnes Funke, 101 years of age
• Kay Winters, 102 years of age
• Rolland “Ron” Carter, 102 years of age (passed away September 2023)
• Helen Foster, 103 years of age

Mayor Lori Bagwell said, “We are so fortunate to have a wonderful community. Thank you to Staybridge Suites for organizing this. Also, a shoutout to Carson Tahoe Expressions Memory Care and Carson Plaza for their donations of the food and beverages, and for inviting guest speaker David Troxel to highlight another important topic of dementia and its impact on our seniors.”
