Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward’s mother has passed away

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward’s mother passed away on Friday, according to a release from the city.

Woodward announced Thursday she would be stepping away for family leave after her mother received a terminal diagnosis.

City spokesperson Brian Coddington said the mayor will spend the weekend with her family and plans to return to work next week.

“She and her family greatly appreciate the thoughts, prayers, and support from the community,” Coddington wrote.

Garrett Jones, Spokane’s interim City Administrator, will handle the basic operations of the city and take care of anything that requires a signature from the mayor until she returns next week.
