Earlier this year, Shinholster, who represents residents who live in the city’s District 3 neighborhood, was named treasurer of the Middle Georgia Regional Commission in Macon.

Tuesday night at the city council member she was nominated and later elected to become the city’s new mayor pro-tem.

City Alderwoman Shonya Mapp nominated Shinholster.

When Mayor Pro-Tem Steve Chambers, who has served in that position for the past two years, called for a vote, Shinholster was unanimously elected.

Shinholster will now serve as the city’s second highest government official under Mayor Mary Parham-Copelan.

Any time the mayor is unable to attend a city council meeting or some other government activity, the mayor pro-tem serves in that role.
