SE City Council OKs building inspection services proposal | News, Sports, Jobs | #citycouncil

SLEEPY EYE — Prokore Inspections, LLC of Mankato will take over building inspection services instead of the City of Sleepy Eye as of Jan. 1, 2024.

The city council unanimously approved a proposal for building inspection and related services by a Mankato company Tuesday. Action came on a motion by councilor Nate Stevermer, seconded by Doug Pelzel for a one-year agreement with Prokore Inspections, LLC as of Jan. 1, 2024.

“This is a really good solution, a really good fit for us,” said Sleepy Eye City Manager Bob Elston. “We collect about $30,000 a year for building inspections.”

Elston said instead of hiring building inspector Bernie Wenner to do inspections, Wenner would work part-time for Prokore. The City of Sleepy Eye would keep 20% of building inspection fees and Prokore would receive 80% of fees, which Elston said would be slightly less than if Wenner did the same work for the City of Sleepy Eye on a salary basis.

Elston added that Prokore has done work in Fairfax, Courtland, Lake Crystal, North Mankato and Mankato and he got favorable responses from nearby cities that worked with Prokore.

Services provided by Prokore include residential, commercial and industrial work by certified building officials, building inspectors and plans examiners. Administration and enforcement includes residential, building, energy, plumbing, mechanical and fuel gas, accessibility and fire codes.

Randy King, Prokore Principal, said he formerly lived in Sleepy Eye and is familiar with the community.

Anonymous donations approved unanimously include $2,000 to Sleepy Eye Park & Recreation, $1,000 to Sleepy Eye Ambulance, $500 from Duncan McGreggor to the Dyckman Free Library and $400 from Chisey Hansen for the Sleepy Eye Ballpark baseball scoreboard, motion by councilor Gary Windschitl, seconded by Stevermer.
