Schubring announces campaign to be next Rochester City Council President | Local | #citycouncil

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The current chair of the Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission has thrown his hat in the ring to be the next City Council President.

Randy Schubring says Rochester’s exciting future has given him a strong desire to serve.

“Rochester has a strong legacy of innovation, resilience, and community spirit. We must leverage this remarkable legacy as we embrace the current growth and ensure our city is a place where everyone can thrive,” says Schubring.  “In light of the rapid growth we are seeing in Rochester, we need to ensure that we are smart about our growth, keep an eye on our neighborhoods and focus on lifting all Rochester residents to succeed.”

Schubring says his top issues will be access to affordable housing, promoting vibrant and safe neighborhoods, and leveraging the Mayo Clinic investment to bring more diversity to the city’s economy.

“Through my work as the chair of the Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission, and my experience volunteering with a core neighborhood association,” says Schubring, “I have a deep understanding of the needs of our city and will use this experience to ensure our great city reaches its full potential.”

Schubring serves as Governor’s appointee to the statewide Metropolitan Airports Commission and on the Board of the United Way of Olmsted County.

Schubring says he has taken a leave of absence from his job at Mayo Clinic where he served as a community relations director and, if elected, he vows to resign from the organization to serve full time as Council President.
