SALISBURY, Md. – Friday, Randy Taylor learned he will be the next mayor of Salisbury; winning by a slim margin of only 50 votes ahead of opponent, Megan Outten.
With the race finally coming to a close, Taylor said he’ll begin strategizing his plans for the city. “It’s been a long week, waiting for these provisional and absentee [votes] to be counted. We’re glad it’s over with,” Taylor said.
One of those steps is bringing on his staff, who he’ll work closely with to tackle issues, such as the city’s budget, and focusing more on uplifting businesses in the community.
“First thing I think is to build our team and get our group together and lay out our priorities and get our oars in the water and start rowing in the same direction,” Taylor said.
And after months on the campaign trail and coming neck and neck with Taylor in the final count, Outten said she’s looking forward to the changes the new mayor will hopefully make, for the betterment of Salisbury.
“I feel like it’s finally done,” Outten said. “I think the city has chosen its mayor and I’m excited for the city to finally start making those next steps for the coming few weeks.”
Though she didn’t win this election, Outten said she’s going to remain a community-oriented leader in the area and continue her work in serving the citizens of Salisbury.
“I’m a firm believer that regardless of the title, that doesn’t identify a leader,” Outten said. “I’m going to continue doing the good work that I do here, in my community. I’m still going to be present, so you can absolutely expect to still see me out there in the streets, connecting with our residents.”
