Salinas City Council will not change cannabis ordinance

Salinas will not be seeing more dispensaries in city limits any time soon. At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, leaders took no action on recommendations to increase the number of permits for dispensaries. They also took no action to decrease the minimum distance dispensaries must be located from schools, churches, and liquor stores. Several people showed up during public comment to speak against the changes.”When it comes to the priorities of Salinas residents, getting a joint is not as important as fixing a road, seeing to it that our community is safe, or putting in a new play structure at El Dorado Park,” said city councilmember Steve McShane. The city council took further action to disband the city’s cannabis subcommittee. The unanimous vote was met with applause from those in attendance.
