Recreational and medical marijuana dispensary to soon open near Arkansas state line
The new dispensary will be less than a mile away from the Arkansas-Missouri state line
A new cannabis dispensary will soon open just beyond the Missouri state line. Although recreational marijuana is legal in Missouri, Arkansans will encounter legal obstacles when attempting to use this new dispensary.”Flora Farms is a legal cannabis licensee in the state of Missouri, where what we in the industry refer to as a vertical operator. That means we grow the marijuana. We also process it. Plus, we have retail distribution dispensaries throughout the state,” said Mark Hendren, president of Flora Farms.Flora Farms is relocating its Neosho store to Pineville, where it operates legally, selling both medical and recreational marijuana.Hendren noted that Missouri voters approved adult-use cannabis statewide in November 2022. He said that license holders, including Flora Farms, were granted consolidated licenses permitting the growth and sale of both medical and adult-use cannabis.For potential customers living just across the state line in Arkansas, where recreational marijuana remains illegal, this situation creates a distinct challenge. Hendren said that the state of Missouri gives his dispensary just one requirement.”We’re regulated by the Department of Cannabis Regulation in the state of Missouri. So, we’re not regulated by Arkansas law, but by Missouri law as a licensee. Our requirements are that we verify that a person has a valid government-issued ID that says they’re 21 years of age,” Hendren said.The new dispensary, which officials are calling the “state line location,” will open with a soft launch on Friday.
