PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Over two months since work began on the Washington Bridge the Providence City Council is asking the Rhode Island Department of Transportation for help repairing some of the city’s side roads.

The requests include Gano and Angell street, which have seen an increased amount of traffic in the past two months being used as a detour for the bridge

Councilman John Goncalves sponsored the resolutio, telling ABC 6 News, “the city council’s goal is to ensure that streets are safe, durable, and capable of accommodating the needs of the community without bearing undue strain from detoured traffic.”

The city has made repairs to the two streets in recent weeks, and the city council voted unanimously to pass the resolution.

RIDOT respondedto the resolution saying, “RIDOT understands the city’s concerns and has been in ongoing discussions with the mayor’s office. RIDOT is going through the process of determining the criteria for federal funding reimbursement for such repairs.”
