Pocatello City Council rejects all bids for Ross Park Water Slide, OK Ward Park Splash Pad | #citycouncil

POCATELLO — The Pocatello City Council has voted unanimously to reject all submitted bids for the construction of a new Ross Park Water Slide and the O.K. Ward Park Splash Pad.

According to a city resolution, it was determined by the council that both projects could be completed at a lower cost “by purchasing goods and services on the open market.”

Councilman Josh Mansfield made separate motions to reject all bids for the projects without any discussion. Council member Corey Mangum seconded the motion.

The motion was then approved by all present members of the council — which did not include council member Linda Leeuwrik, who was absent from the meeting due to illness, according to an announcement made by Mayor Brian Blad at the onset of the meeting.

Mangum thanked the Parks and Recreation Department for its work toward development of the courts.

“We need as much of this (sort of thing) going on as possible,” the council member said.

Blad joked that, after months of attending council meetings to request the courts, no one was at the meeting to celebrate the the funding.

“When we weren’t doing this, we had this room full of pickleball people. And now that we’re doing it, I would think that they would be here cheering and clapping and thanking us — but I don’t see anybody doing that,” the mayor said to laughter from the council.

According to the resolution, $70,500 will be paid to complete the playing surface and netting. Another $33,895 will go to fencing around the courts and $106,667 for lighting.

A motion was made by Mansfield to approve the resolution. It was seconded by Mangum. It passed with all “yes” votes — less Leeuwrik, who was not present.
