Plans unveiled for Northwest Arkansas’ first Costco


A surveyor was out Monday at what is expected to be the future site of the first Costco in Northwest Arkansas. It is to be located at the corner of West Pleasant Grove Road and Concord Street in Lowell. And it has area shoppers excited.”I think anytime we get to diversify our shopping options, I think that is always a good thing,” Kelsey Smith said.Currently, the closest Costcos to Northwest Arkansas are in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Springfield, Missouri. The Lowell Board of Zoning adjustments met Monday night to discuss variance requests.”The board of zoning and adjustments will have to make a decision on those variance requests,” Lowell Mayor Chris Moore said. “One deals with signage, another deals with green space requirements.”Costco said it is company policy not to share details about a new location until two to three months in advance. Moore said he can’t share details either but admitted the announcement has created quite a social media buzz for his city. “It’s quite crazy, right now,” he said.
