PLAINS, Ga. (WALB) – The mayor of Plains recently announced his resignation after 40 years of serving in this role.
He has created projects such as fixing water and sewer lines. He has served as mayor from 1979-1984, and then again from 1988-2024.
Former Mayor L.E. Boze Godwin is a native of Plains and says that he felt his time as mayor was coming to an end due to health problems.
While serving in this role he has been able to maintain the operations of Plains such as the water, sewer and updates to the police department.
“I grew up here, and I raised my family here and I had a business here. So I love the people. It’s just one big family, black and white it doesn’t matter,” the former Plains mayor said.
“Very strong, very on the spot, very accessible, very good,” Cindy Bagwell, city clerk of Plains, said.
“It really changes when President Carter became President and even running for President. We had thousands of people here and I was proud for these people to be here. And our citizens was proud to meet everyone,” Bagwell, said.
Mayor Pro Tem Kim Fuller will now serve as mayor, continuing the work that Godwin started.
