The Poteau City Council will deal with some personnel matters during its October meeting at approximately 7:10 p.m. Monday at Poteau City Hall.
The City Council will look to approve the City of Poteau Police Committee’s recommendation to hire Chase Blake as a Poteau P.D. officer, pending police pension.
The City Council also will look to approve the City of Poteau Police Committee’s recommendations on four promotions — Jody Thompson to lieutenant, Justin Dodson to investigator, Matthew Goodrich to sergeant and Ethan Firestine to corporal.
Poteau Mayor Scotty White is scheduled to give a five-year service pin to Poteau Animal Control officer David Hope.
In other matters for the City Council, the board will look to approve a resolution regarding applying for an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, to approve resolutions calling for a special election in the City of Poteau to submit to city voters the question of whether the position of Chief of Police (also known as the town marshal) of the City of Poteau and City of Poteau Street Commissioner shall be appointed by the City Council and approval of the ballot for such a proposition, to approve the City of Poteau to take control of the Phil Gardenhire Rodeo Arena, to approve a specific use permit for an RV park at 404 Wilburn Avenue requested by Kelli Thompson and to approve a proposed de-annexation of two properties owned by Matt Webb — one 6.7 acres in area and the other 5.92 acres — to the City of Poteau and whether a hearing should be scheduled regarding the proposed annexation.
The City Council is expected to approve payment of purchase orders as signed and approved by the City of Poteau Finance Committee, to approve the acceptance of the department reports and to approve budget transfers for September.
In the first of Monday night’s tripleheader of meetings, the Poteau Industrial Authority board will hear Poteau Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer Karen Wages report.

The second meeting of Monday night will be the Poteau Public Works Authority board meeting, in which the board will look to approve a resolution regarding the application for an ARPA grant from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board.
