Jean Stothert announces reelection campaign as Omaha’s Mayor


Jean Stothert is running for reelection as Omaha’s mayor.Stothert, 70, made the announcement Tuesday morning at the University of Nebraska Omaha’s Alumni Center.”We have a record of progress and success, and together, we have the momentum to build Omaha into a city for the future,” Stothert said. “Momentum starts with strong, trusted leadership to turn vision into results, to empower citizens, and to set and exceed goals.”Stothert said her priorities will be improving public safety, managing the city budget, creating job growth and economic development, and improving the taxpayer experience.The next mayoral election will be held in 2025.”I am especially proud of the impressive strides we have made to make Omaha a safer city,” Stothert said.Stothert said plans to innovate policing and emergency response include a real-time operations center, public safety headquarters, restoring the number of sworn officers, adding another police precinct downtown and a new fire station in rapidly growing northwest Omaha.The Republican won her third term as the city’s mayor in 2021, receiving more than 64% of the vote to defeat RJ Neary.She became the first woman to serve as Omaha’s mayor in 2013, defeating incumbent Jim Suttle. Stothert, 70, made the announcement Tuesday morning at the University of Nebraska Omaha’s Alumni Center.
