OGDEN — Ogden has a new chief administrative officer to help run the city.

The Ogden City Council this week approved Mayor Mike Caldwell’s selection of Mara Brown to replace Mark Johnson as chief administrative officer, the mayor’s top lieutenant and a key player in making sure city operations run smoothly.

Caldwell announced he had picked Brown to serve in the post in late June and the City Council unanimously approved the pick on Tuesday. Brown has been handling chief administrative officer duties since Johnson stepped down on June 30.

“I appreciate the opportunity to be the CAO and continue my service with the city,” Brown said. She had served as management services director since 2021 and started in the city as chief deputy attorney in 2007.

“It is a very special community that we live in, Ogden,” she said, adding that one of her aims will be to “continue to make it the best, vibrant place to live.”

In all, 52 candidates expressed interest in the chief administrative officer post.

The City Council and others at Tuesday’s meeting applauded after Brown’s selection was formally approved.

“This is another home run,” said Councilmember Bart Blair.

“I just want to say I hear ceilings shattering all over the community, congratulations,” said Councilmember Ben Nadolski.
