Obamas top Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg’s Kentucky Derby invites

What do the Obamas, the chairperson of Starbucks and the LPGA commissioner have in common?

They were all invited to the 150th Kentucky Derby by Mayor Craig Greenberg, according to records obtained by The Courier Journal.

It is customary for Louisville mayors to invite guests to the Derby, but former Mayor Greg Fischer refused to disclose his invitations. For the second year in a row, the Greenberg administration released the names of those attending through open records requests.

Among the invitees are former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. In the letter to the Obamas, Greenberg mentioned they had “common friends,” Matthew and Brooke Barzun.
