Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport is leaving Highfill


The Northwest Arkansas National Airport’s board voted Tuesday to detach the airport from the City of Highfill.“The only option was detachment,” XNA Public Affairs Manager Olivia Moore said. “That was for the betterment of the region and for XNA.”The airport board and the city have been negotiating a possible detachment for months. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed Act 769 into law this spring, which allows airports to detach themselves from city governments.In July, the two sides discussed a division of the 2% sales tax revenue Highfill has been receiving from the airport.“Our CEO had informal meetings with the mayor in which we tried to offer several different proposals,” Moore said. Chris Holland, mayor of Highfill, told 40/29 News that he does not support the separation and that Highfill is not the bad person in this situation.
