Northwest Arkansas law enforcement collaborate to increase officer applicants

BELLA VISTA, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Six local law enforcement agencies are teaming up to find more people wanting to protect and serve.

“Many departments in the area, not just Arkansas, but in the country as a whole, are losing officers, and are in need of more officers,” said Haley Lyons, communication outreach officer for the Bella Vista Police Department.

Bella Vista, Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office have partnered with the Northwest Arkansas Council for its national recruitment campaign.

This week, officers from each department are in Fort Worth. The next event will be held in Los Angeles on April 11.

“The events are one day, and we are going to do a third event. I believe it just hasn’t been decided which location we are going to do. We did the South and West Coast. We might try an East Coast one,” said Lyons.

Lyons says going to recruitment events like the one in Texas can help attract more potential applicants to Northwest Arkansas.

“Our departments range in size. Our departments range in what we offer. So, I think allowing them to see that range is what really is great about this group as a whole,” said Lyons.

She says this also gives people a chance to learn about what Northwest Arkansas has to offer.

“So by us spreading out and going to places such as California who has probably never even heard of Northwest Arkansas, it gives them a chance to look at a different place and how they could put their roots there and grow families here,” said Lyons.

The law enforcement agencies and the Northwest Arkansas Council have created a website to share information about the law enforcement careers available. It also lists facts about living in Northwest Arkansas.
