The Arkansas Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities will host its annual Arkansas Business Inclusion Summit Tuesday. The summit serves as an opportunity for Northwest Arkansas businesses to come together and share practices and ideas on integrated employment. “I think this is going to be an excellent opportunity for J.B. Hunt and other companies here in Northwest Arkansas to come together, share best practices, share ideas, get creative about opening up opportunities and increasing opportunities for individuals with disabilities for gainful employment where they can make a difference in the marketplace,” said Mark Jostad, the senior director of compliance at J.B. Hunt. The executive director for the council, Jonathan Taylor, said that while most companies in NWA agree that it’s important to hire people with disabilities, it may be challenging to implement those ideas. “So you have a great idea and directive and policy that we’re going to hire more people with disabilities. But when it comes down to getting them in the front door from the interview process to the onboarding process to just training, sometimes there’s a disconnect,” he said. Taylor said he plans to address the disconnect during today’s summit. The summit will be held at the Graduate Hotel in Fayetteville at 9 a.m.
