NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — Northport City Council President Jeff Hogg announced his resignation Thursday, citing “physical threats, death threats, and harassing communications” among the reasons for his decision to step down from his position.
Hogg was initially elected to the Northport City Council in 2016 as District 5 representative, and served as council president pro tempore from 2016-2020 prior to becoming city council president.
In his resignation letter, Hogg wrote that “While so much input to me has been incredibly positive, over the last 6 months, my family and I have encountered physical threats, death threats, and harassing communications.”
“These actions have also had an adverse effect on my career and future with my employer, who has also encountered these negative communications. This has the potential to negatively affect my family’s livelihood, as well as the livelihood of all the people I work with on a daily basis,” Hogg continued.
It is unknown who will replace Hogg as District 5 representative.
