Mayor Eric Adams said he would make a $43 million investment to transform the city into a leader in gender equity.
The plan — supported by city funds, private partnerships, academic institutions, and federal grants — looks to address gender disparities for all women, including transgender and gender-expansive individuals.
Announced during Mayor Adams’ State of the City address, the plan titled “Women Forward NYC” focuses on solving the city’s gender imbalances by “connecting women to professional development and higher-paying jobs; dismantling barriers to sexual, reproductive, and chronic health care; reducing gender-based violence against women; and providing holistic housing services,” a release said.
“As a child, my mother worked three jobs just to make ends meet, and for too long, women like her have been left behind, failed by systems that pay women less than their counterparts, overlook and even diminish their health needs, and neglect their safety,” said Adams.
