New Orleans mayor council budget hearing


The city of New Orleans’ finances will be front and center Tuesday as Mayor LaToya Cantrell presents her budget plan to the city council. The general revenue fund comes in at a little over $722 million, which is 3% more than last year. Some points of contention in the budget are the sanitation contracts and spending for the NOPD. Leaders are looking to adopt a new strategy to recruit and retain more officers. City leaders adopted the budget forecast earlier this month, with the mayor’s office laying out the specifics during the meeting Tuesday. The budget hearing begins in November and will be adopted on Dec. 1.
