New airport agreement to be discussed at the city council meeting on Monday | Victoria | #citycouncil

A new agreement with Victoria County involving the Victoria Regional Airport will be voted on at a special City Council meeting Monday.

The item was originally discussed at the City Council meeting on Aug. 29.

The agreement will allow the process to change the governance structure of the airport from 100% county sponsored to a 50/50 split between the city and the county, according to the meeting agenda.

Allowing the city to sponsor will allow them to uphold FAA grant assurances and creates cost sharing in other projects.

In addition, the creation of a new airport commission will be able to have newly members appointed from the city.

The partnership between the city and the county will have to last at least five years before anyone can withdraw, according to the agenda.
