MOORHEAD — With the

departure of sitting city council member Steve Lindaas

, the city of Moorhead is looking for a new citizen to step up and lead in his stead until the end of his term in 2024.

To that end, the council will be accepting applications for the open council seat from July 11 till noon on Friday, July 21.

City leaders will begin posting the notice of the application in the newspaper and on the city’s website and social media pages on July 11, according to council documents.

Applicants will be invited to interview for the position during the City Council meeting on July 24, at which point council members will have the opportunity to ask questions and meet the applicants.

Next, council members will recommend a candidate during their Aug. 14 meeting, selected through a simple majority vote.

That candidate will be officially sworn into office on Sept. 11, council documents state.

“We’re sad to see council member Lindaas go, but we’re very excited to have no gap in leadership and to have somebody new from the community step forward and serve,” council member Heather Neseimeier said.

Lindaas, council member for Ward 4, has accepted the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship and starting Sept. 1, plans to work with the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C., according to a June 15 resignation letter Lindaas wrote to the City of Moorhead.

Lindaas officially resigned on June 26 and gave his last day as Aug. 31.

“I’ll never forget working with you,” City Manager Dan Malhi said, “You leave the council in a great place to do amazing things in the coming year and beyond.”
