For the second time in two weeks, gunfire erupted in Milwaukee after what was supposed to be a day of celebration. A 15-year-old Milwaukee boy was gunned down on Milwaukee’s Eastside Monday night after crowds dispersed from the Lakefront Fireworks show. The boy was shot and killed on North and Prospect around 11 p.m. This act of gun violence comes two weeks after a 15-year-old boy opened fire after the Juneteenth celebrations wrapped up, injuring six teens. Milwaukee Police say the post-fireworks homicide stemmed from an argument. Lifelong Eastside neighbor Barb Burton says she no longer feels safe leaving her apartment. “Nothing has happened like this to me in this time that I’ve lived here. And it’s a half a block from where I live,” Burton said Tuesday morning. 12 News brought her concerns to Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson Tuesday morning before he and his family walked in the Humboldt Park Parade. “Unfortunately, last night, I believe that stemmed from an argument, and then there was a senseless use of guns in that incident. But listen, in Milwaukee, we’ve got a number of approaches to address crime, especially as it relates to young people,” Mayor Johnson said. 12 News reporter Madison Moore asked the mayor how people are meant to feel safe attending large gatherings when shootings like this happen afterward.”On the whole, I think that these events are safe. We’re about to have a wonderful parade down here in Bayview and go across the city to a number of different Fourth of July celebrations all across Milwaukee and those events in the past, and this one here, I am certain will be safe, family-friendly and fun event that we want people to come out and to enjoy,” Johnson said.12 News was only given time for two questions Tuesday morning.
