Melbourne mayor to discuss downtown safety after shootings


MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne police are investigating an overnight shooting that left several people hurt and damaged nearby businesses and cars.

It happened at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday on East New Haven Street in downtown Melbourne.

Police said a fight broke out in the street and that shots were fired.

Three people were taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. Their conditions haven’t been released.

Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey says he plans to discuss downtown safety at the next city council meeting on Tuesday.
