LIMA, OH (WLIO) – Lima youth get some lessons about what it takes to get a job. The Mayor’s GenNext program is a workforce development program, developed by the city of Lima, geared to help people 16 to 24 years old get skills and experience in areas that they are interested in during a summer internship. Saturday, they learned about the pre-employment stage, like how to write an effective resume, how to present yourself when you interview, and financial literacy.
“So, today we want to ensure that the youth that we place in careers, that they will be exploring through the Mayor’s GenNext program, that they have the education and foundation to be successful,” says Amber Martin, Lima’s Workforce and Small Business Development Coordinator. “So, we really want to make sure that we are preparing the youth for what they might be seeing in the workplace, building their confidence and self-esteem as they head out into the workforce.”
Next, the teens will be contacted by local companies for their internship and when they get hired, they will work for them for up to 20 hours a week for eight weeks this summer.
