Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger was joined by mayor-elect Emma Mulvaney-Stanak in recognizing trans visibility day on Friday.Dozens of community members gathered in front of city hall to celebrate the raising of Burlington’s new trans flag, which resembles the design of the city’s original flag and was sewn by a community member.Weinberger and Mulvaney-Stanak both praised their shared efforts in launching the city’s “trans people belong campaign.”Mulvaney-Stanak, who will be Burlington’s first woman and openly queer mayor, said more work with the LGBTQ community will be at the top of the agenda list once the new administration is sworn in.Weinberger welcomed Mulvaney-Stanak to the podium with an acknowledgment of the progress being made in the city: “This is actually an issue of bringing visibility and love to trans people in this community is something that mayor-elect Mulvaney-Stanak, and I worked on before we knew we were going to get to this day over the past year.”The mayor-elect echoed that sentiment, but instead, spoke to the work that is to come– very soon.”On day one, which is really April 2, I invite you all to the historic swearing-in on April 1 at 6:00. On April 2, my first day on the job, we’ll be issuing a proclamation to affirm this day as trans visibility day for the city of Burlington.”
