Read Mayor Waites’ words below:

I have been made aware through the media of the unfortunate situation regarding the Bridge City youth inmates being relocated to the Jetson facility. As both the mayor and a resident of Baker, I am concerned. I also understand that there is a desire to hear from me as the Mayor of Baker. However, the Jetson Facility, which is less than a mile from Baker is not located within the city limits of Baker. Therefore, the City of Baker has no jurisdiction relative to the facility. It is a state-owned and operated entity under the jurisdiction of the State Department of Corrections. I have voiced my concerns for the safety of the community to Governor Edwards. I am in the process of working with my team and other elected officials to establish community meetings which allow the citizens of Baker a venue to voice their concerns that will be communicated through appropriate channels.
