Mayor Steinberg proposes the Climate, Clean Transportation, and Affordable Housing Act of 2024 during State of the City


Friday morning, Mayor Darrell Steinberg stood in front of a large crowd on S Street in Sacramento’s Midtown, with an announcement he explained could change the landscape of the entire area.During the final day of his State of the City address, Steinberg announced the proposal of the Climate, Clean Transportation, and Affordable Housing Act of 2024. It would provide up to $3 billion for affordable housing and displacement prevention, up to $3 billion for public transit and an additional $3 billion for safe streets and active transportation.The proposal includes a half-cent sales tax that would raise $8 billion to $9 billion over 40 years, invested directly into a trust fund to finance housing and transportation issues. Mayor Steinberg said the aforementioned percentages may change, depending on the defined needs of the county and the seven cities within.
