Mayor-elect Pierce on priorities for city of Watertown

This weekend on In Focus, we’re unpacking the impact of local election results across upstate New York. JoDee Kenney was joined by Watertown Mayor-elect Sarah Compo Pierce, the first woman to be elected to that role in the city’s history.

Compo Pierce said her priorities will be increasing fiscal responsibility and accountability in city government and working to foster collaboration with Fort Drum, which is a major economic driver for Watertown. The mayor-elect said another goal will be to prioritize spending on city infrastructure investments and improving drinking water quality, which right now falls short of federal standards. While she has been critical of several spending decisions as a council member, including the purchase of the Watertown Golf Club and a third swimming pool, Compo Pierce said her administration will look to diversify investments in projects to encourage visitors to spend their time and tourism dollars, in the city.
