Mayor-Elect Mike Galime Talks Utica Youth | News

UTICA, N.Y. — Mike Galime met with some local influential Black Community Members in advance of Galime’s role as mayor coming this January.

Many issues were brought up including, but certainly not limited to, youth engagement, youth safety, issues regarding the city piping and the lead poisoning that has been popping up, Inclusivity of people of color in city matters, and much more.

A big point made by Mayor Elect Galime was that he wants to hear these issues, and he emphasized the Trust Building Meetings on the 3rd Thursday of every month where people can come out and voice their concerns and opinions.

“The key is to present and reachable in the community,” Galime said. “You can’t just say ‘everyone come to the office- come to city hall,’ that doesn’t work. So, whether it’s Freddy, whether it’s Roosevelt, whether it’s Venice… whether it’s Venice’s wife, I will be bringing people in that are key within the community, but then also be present here.”

Galime officially takes over as Mayor on January 1st.
